There are two ways to accomplish something in society: convince people or use force.
Using force includes anything that pressures and compels people to act against their will, including social pressure and threats of being cancelled, fired, attacked, etc. It also includes laws and policies that people dislike or are opposed to.
The problem with trying to convince people is that you must have a compelling argument, and even if you do, some people won't listen. But the problem with using force is worse, because even if you are right, it always creates a backlash. And if you make enough people upset, eventually everything you worked so hard for will be erased and replaced with the opposite of what you wanted.
There is a time and place for using force, such as defending people and preventing abuse, but for long lasting change, you need to convince people about why your way is better. If people don't understand and accept the reasons why, they will resent any force used to make them comply.
