I just realized something scary. If Trump manages to get all of the major countries to agree with a 10% tariff in both directions, that basically results in the equivalent of a 10% sales tax on all imported goods. Every government that participates would see an increase in revenue, while also seeing a slight boost for local production that avoids the tax. It is basically a backdoor way to introducing a national sales tax that exempts locally produced goods. Is that their real end goal here?
